Painter, sculptor, writer and playwright, JOE Ramangelisa Samb, aka JOE Ouakam, lives in his "Ker" (space, house), a permanent expo space located in an open square in central Dakar, amidst the city's buildings. His studio is a meeting point for the artistic minds of Dakar as well as international visitors. They are all invited to walk freely amongst paintings, masks, sculptures made of stone, rags, scrap metal, iron, wires, ropes and roots that reach to the sky... A unique and unclassifiable African artist, JOE Ouakam continues to elevate life in Dakar and acts as a gatekeeper of African art.
